4 Keys to Effective Goal Planning

As we prepare for 2016, we often think of New Year’s Resolutions. Like most, we want to lose weight, go back to school, or maybe travel to another country, but I want to challenge you to think about setting goals that will create a win for your business. What is a win for you? When you begin your journey to achieve your goals, first think about Culture, Process, Action, and Focus.

Become the Architect of your Culture

Understand that culture defines the very environment in which your vision will succeed or fail. Culture trumps vision every time. It doesn’t matter how strong or how wonderful your vision is, a toxic culture will kill your vision. Ask yourself, “What does this culture look like?” Defining your culture will create the atmosphere to win. Create the kind of culture necessary to reach your goals and position yourself to succeed!

Create Systems and Processes for Winning

You need processes to define your win. For example, if I didn’t make at least $300 monthly profit on a real estate deal, I wouldn’t entertain the idea again. I had a process in place to define what a winning investment deal looked like for me. What do you use to determine your win? What criterion have you set that tell you what a win looks like? Systems and processes help you avoid wasting time and enable you to focus your energy on activities that create a win.

Take Action

Now, it’s time to take action! After all is said and done, sometimes there’s more said than done. Don’t just talk it. Do it! Your action will require courage. No one can be courageous for you. Have the courage to take the risk.

Focus on Priorities

Lastly, you must focus. Most dreams die because of broken focus. If everything is important, then nothing is important! You can’t focus on everything. Define your focus. Whatever gets your focus gets your destiny

You have what it takes to reach your goals. Be the cultural architect for your business or ministry.  Plan the processes for your vision. Let your goals lead you to a place of action. Then as you take action, focus on what’s before you. Let 2016 be the year that propel you into your destiny.  2016 is your year to win!
